Classes are Filled First Come, First Served

Register Early!

Class Availability

Wheel and Hand building classes are offered during Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer, too. Classes are held at the Waterloo Potters’ Workshop at the Eby Farmhouse in Waterloo Park. Each course is 8 nights over 9 weeks: six weeks working with clay, one week off for pots to dry, one week to glaze and an exciting final night to review your work and celebrate with classmates. Class nights run from 7-10pm.

Please sign up for a winter, spring or summer class, or find a class with one of our member potters offering classes in Waterloo Region: Sculption, Mermaid Springs Pottery, and L'Abbé Pottery are a few.

Classes Offered

While these classes are geared to beginners, students with previous experience are welcome. Please note that the wheel class can be physically demanding. If you have back, wrist or elbow issues you are advised to proceed at your own risk.

Handbuilding Class

This course covers essential handbuilding techniques for creating both decorative and functional pieces. You learn how to use slabs, molds, coils, pinch pots, handles, decorative effects and more to create bowls, serving dishes, mugs or decorative objects. With handbuilding you have more time to focus on decoration and play with form. These are useful skills to then combine with the wheel.

Wheel Class

Learn to throw on the wheel. Start with bowls, mugs, and progress to plates or larger objects. Learn techniques for creating and attaching handles. If you’re very ambitious you might want to make a teapot!

Class Sizes are Small

Each class has space for 8 participants in wheel and 10 in handbuilding, and we need to fill classes in order to run them, so feel free to bring a friend, family member or fellow enthusiast! Spaces fill quickly, so to avoid disappointment, remember to email or send in a form with payment asap.

How to Register

For all classes, send in your payment ASAP as spots are assigned as cheques are received. To provide your registration info you can either complete the online form OR download the Printable Registration Form (PDF).  Make cheques payable to Waterloo Potters’ Workshop or WPW postdated to the class start date. Mail to the address on the form in order to secure your spot.

We are grateful for the large numbers of people who have emailed us and/or sent in electronic forms for upcoming classes, but we can only confirm registration in class once a form AND cheque have been received. We appreciate your patience and apologize if you have not heard back from us other than to confirm your registration.

If you see that the class/session you had hoped to register for is now full, and have submitted a form (printed and/or electronic) and post-dated cheque to the mailing address, you will automatically be put on a waiting list and will be given priority placement in the next available class of preference.

NOTE: we are not able to register people who have only submitted online forms. Your cheque secures a spot. We are working on an online payment method by January 2020.

Course Fees

$251.99 per course, includes materials, firing, glazing, use of all tools needed and taxes.

Register

Complete the registration form either online or download and print the form here. Then send your  payment ASAP to confirm your spot (first come, first served). You are not registered until we receive payment, sorry. Later this fall we will be implementing online payments. We can't wait either!
